So far this year Mr. Bo and I have gone OUT to a theatre five,yes, FIVE times to see a movie. Amazing, considering it's only June, and it usually takes us the better part of the year to see that many films on the big screen. We are on a roll! Our most recent venture came a few weeks ago when we were invited to accompany some friends to the movie "Super 8." I had seen previews for the movie but did not actually have a whole lot of interest in seeing it, but the company was just too good to pass up. In short, it was a super natural thriller done in classic Steven Spielberg form; complete with a gang of likeable, quick-whitted, pre- teens leading the cast. I liked the movie more than I thought I would, right up until the last 20 minutes or so when the movie turned to cheeeeeese....Thick cheese, that kind of cheese that sort of makes you want to gag. While I did find myself sympathizing with the alien by the end (which I think was the point), I have to admit that I've seen better.

We haven't had a lot of time lately for movie watching at home, mostly due to Mr. Bo's hectic summer baseball schedule. So when we do have time to sit down for some qualitly entertainment, our Netflix "watch instantly" pick as of late has been the Showtime series "Dexter." Normally this is not the type of show I would choose, but ever since we caught up to "Weeds" a year or two ago, waiting for the new seasons to make it to NF seems never ending....plus the series just isn't what it used to be (I miss Agrestic, and what the heck happened to Celia?). If it wasn't for the characther of Andy we might not even watch the show anymore. Needless to say, it was time to broaden my TV series horizons. I'm glad I did. Dexter has quickly become a favorite of both Mr. Bo and myself. It stars Michael C. Hall as a likeable forensics expert working for the Miami PD, who also moonlights as a serial killer. Instead of fighting his demons, he channels his urge to kill into only murdering "bad guys."

I have also finished reading the final book of the Hunger Games series, Mocking Jay. I am hoping to begin reading the last book of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo series this week. And not a moment to soon, because the English language movie version of the first book comes out this winter. I can hardly contain my excitement! How could I after seeing The Teaser?










....Oh, and in case your wondering....yes, we beat Bowser's Castle.

Old Is Gold

In a world obsessed with "faux" (faux fur, faux-plants, and my personal favorite; faux lashes), I like to take a break now and then to say, "faux-shmo." I'm talking antiques people. I love em'. No faux-distressed furniture for this gal. Nope, when it comes to splurging on something fun for the house, nothing gets my heart racing like a good vintage piece.

Shoo Fly, Don't Bother Me!: The Sequel

I just survived a near death experience! Or at least you would think I did by the way my heart is pounding right now.
One word: Cicadas.

Depending on where you live in the Midwest (or maybe all over the US?), you're home may or may not be swarming with the little monsters. Unfortunately we happen to live in a heavily wooded neighborhood where they are everywhere and it seems,out to get me. If you remember this post you may recall that I am not a big fan of bugs. Well, to be honest, it's a little worse than just "not being a fan" of them. I have a full blown, irrationally crazy bug phobia. Case and point: I just spent 20 minutes sitting in my car, paralyzed with fear (aside from the weeping),  unable to muster up the courage to simply get out and walk to my front door.... Ok, so maybe the weeping is an exaggeration, but the 20 minutes is not. It was pitiful. It doesn't help that I am married to a man who finds humor, rather than sympathy, in my terror. He is convinced that I just need to face and conquer my fear. I however, feel that for a bug that only makes an appearance every 13 years, that it's ok for me to just throw in the towel and accept defeat.

There's only one thing that can scare me more than the buzzing madness (that I can only describe as probably being comparable to the locust plague in the Old Testament), waiting outside my door: Remembering that it's not even June Bug season yet.

Oh the humanity.

Hello, My name is Mrs. Bo, and I am a Mario-aholic.

That's right, Mr. Bo and I have have become absolutely, unashamedly, addicted to Super Mario Brothers Wii. It came with the Wii I bought in December for Mr. Bo's Christmas present, but it wasn't until recently, thanks to the life changing discovery of the "Quick Save" option, that we really started getting into it. Now we are turtle tipping, world warping, toad stool feinding, awesome mother-truckers. I grew up playing Super Mario Brothers for Super Nintendo, so it's been fun to show off my skeeelz....or perhaps, lack there of depending on which world I am in (World 8: You are my Everest). Naturally Mr. Bo is much better at the game than I am; he says because of his reflexes, ( or as he calls it, Bo-flex). I think it is because men just have a genetic tendency to be bigger video game nerds than women. Regardless, if spending 5 hours on a cloudy saturday playing Nintendo with my husband is wrong, then I don't wanna be right.

In our defense, we originally planned to spend this past Saturday outside, but it turned out to be a rather disappointing day weather wise (big surprise). So In between Nintendo sessions we went out to lunch, grocery shopping, and around 9:30  that night we decided to go out to a movie. It was a toss up between The Hangover 2 and Bridesmaids. We decided on Bridesmaids being that it started at 9:55 and The Hangover didn't start till 10:10...that 15 minutes makes a big difference when you are married to a man who has a chronic case of falling asleep during movies syndrome. Lucky for him he did not fall asleep, because it was a great movie. Sooo funny. KristenWiig was Hil-ar-ious. Runner Up for most laugh inducing actress goes to Melissa McCarthy. Bravo Ladies.

I also finished reading the novel Water For Elephants. It was really good, all the way through to the end of the Author's notes. I am glad I read it, because I heard the movie was pretty disappointing. Even though I have not yet seen the movie, I would highly recommend reading the book first. I think you will be glad you did.
