Sex, Drugs, and Rock n' Roll

Ok, so there definitely wont be any sex (boo!), drugs (unless you count the Allegra I just took for my allergies), or rock n' roll (except maybe the Pink Floyd lullaby album BB listens to at night), included in this post... It peaked your interest though, didn't it! Buuuut,  if you feel like reading a boring blog about the weekend goings-on's of a boring midwest family, then you have come to the right place!

Read on if you dare....

You know you're a grown-up (and possibly a lame one) when...

1. You go to Applebee's with your husband and baby on a Friday night so you can finally get rid of the gift card the hubs got from work.
2. You go to Applebee's with your husband and baby on a Friday night at 5:30.
3. You go to Applebee's with your husband and baby on a Friday night at 5:30, and when asked what you want to do the rest of the weeked you reply with "I'm not sure, but there's a movie on Lifetime tomorrow night that looks good."

Incase you didn't pick up on it, this weekend we went to Applebee's and watched a movie on Lifetime.

I guess that's not all we did.

On Saturday we went to Bass Pro Shop to look at the fish....

On Sunday morning we went to church, where we took BB to the nursery for the first time. I didn't document the experience, but it looked something like this...

One of the drawbacks of staying home with your baby: Major separation anxiety. We barely made it through 15 minutes of the service before we were paged because he was crying so hard.

On Sunday afternoon my parents came over (with pizza!) to play with BB...

What did you do this weekend?

Weekend Review

This past weekend was a bit more eventful than most of our weekends. On Friday evening my sister and her boyfriend came to town and stayed with us both Friday and Saturday nights. Mr. Bo's sister and her fiance were also in town, and on Friday night we all went to an outdoor concert downtown, while my mom stayed with BB until 2 a.m. (Thanks mom!) We had a BLAST! We saw Girl Talk. If you haven't heard of him (yes it's a him) you should look him up...especially if you like to shake what yo' mamma gave ya! As you can probably guess, there was a whole lot of shakin' going on that night! After the show we enjoyed some delish Sushi, and some more live music at another venue. It was so nice for Mr. Bo and I to get to go out and STAY out late, something we don't get to do much anymore. Staying out until 2 (followed by hanging out at home until after 3) is not something I necessarily want to do these days with a baby who gets up at 6....but on this particular occasion it was worth it.  It felt like old times, and it was great to hang out with my sister who I don't get to see much now that she lives a few hours away.

The Show

Sisters

Saturday was a nice recovery day, as BB was in a good mood and we didn't have a whole lot to do. Mr. Bo was even kind enough to get up early with BB so I could sleep in a bit. That night Mr. Bo's family came over and we grilled out, but not before it started raining. The food was still yummy, but I was a bit of a party pooper and headed upstairs to bed around 8.
Sunday was Father's Day! We are lucky enough to have both of our families living here in town so we were able to spend some time with both of our dad's during the day. I got up early that morning with BB so Mr. Bo could sleep, and he was allowed to watch as much sports as he wanted that day with no complaining from me (not really a whole lot different from most days, but whatevs'). I told him he was allowed to call the shots that day, and whatever he wanted to spend it doing was his call. That's what he chose. Go figure :). On Mother's Day I opted to have Mr. Bo relieve me of my BB responsibilities for the day, but on Father's Day he was still more than happy to mix bottles, change diapers, and roll around on the ground like a fool with our son. He's a pretty awesome dad. Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for my Mom Of The Year award to arrive in the mail....must have gotten lost.

Now, it's going to sound like I'm going off subject, but just wait because I will have a point.....
For the past month or two Mr. Bo's cat, Dr. Katz (a.k.a Doc), has been living with my in-laws. Dr. Katz was a Bo family pet from around the time Mr. Bo was 14. After graduating from college, Mr.Bo took Dr. Katz in as his own when his parent's living situation at the time did not allow pets.  Around the time I got pregnant Mr. Bo's parents opted to take Dr. Katz back when our small home was beginning to feel a little over crowded with three pets and a baby on the way. Since they travel and live out of state for three months of the year, Dr. Katz has been back and forth for the past year or so, and as of Sunday was back living with his original "parents." Last week his health began to go downhill. He wasn't eating, drinking, or moving well, and on Sunday while we were at the Bo's he was not doing much of anything at all. He didn't even lift his head when you approached him. Over the night last night Dr. Katz passed away at the ripe old age of 17. The Bo's gave him a proper burial, and while we all knew it was coming, it is still incredibly sad to see him go. He played a big part in all of our lives for a long time. I believe my MIL captured all of our emotions when she said "He was an awesome cat who could annoy the heck out of you. I threatened to kill him several times, but now that he is gone I miss him terribly."

Even though it ended sadly, the weekend was still a lot of fun over all. A lot of time with a lot of family. It was nice.

The Adventures of Baby Bo: 7 Months

I say it every month....I can't believe how fast the time has gone by. I remember back when BB was first born and thinking that 6 months was going to be such a milestone, and I was having a hard time picturing him  as an active "half-year-old." Well now the half way mark has come and gone, and we are on the downhill slide to one year! Until then I am determined to live in the now, and enjoy every new stage of his life, including this stage: 7 months!
BB had his 6 month well check at around 6 1/2 months, so when I wrote his 6 month update I wasn't exactly sure how much he weighed, etc. Well on May 24, BB weighed in at a whopping 19 lbs and was 27 1/2 inches tall, putting him in the respective 78th and 88th percentiles. He got three more vaccination shots, and took them surprisingly well. He cried for only a few seconds, and not even until the third stick did he really seem to notice what was going on. I was so relieved, because as any mother will tell you, shots can be a heart breaking and traumatic experience for both mom and baby. Everything checked out health wise, although it was recommended that we see a dermatologist for a small pimple like cyst that he has had on his chin for quite some time.
This past Monday I had to take BB back to the doctor. Last Friday he began running a low grade fever (also his first fever), and even though it was gone on Saturday, he began breaking out into a full body rash. The rash stayed throughout the weekend, and along with it came a stuffy/runny nose, watery eyes, and lots of fussiness. Since he no longer had a fever we were told that the rash was probably nothing, and that most likely he had a cold or allergies. By Wednesday the rash was gone, and today he seems to be feeling better all together.
His sleeping and eating patterns have stayed very consistent these past few months. He still takes three naps a day, drinks 4 bottles a day, and eats breakfast, lunch, and dinner. He still goes to bed around 8 every night, and wakes up between 6 and 7. Mr. Bo and I both thank our lucky stars that BB is such a good sleeper. For as high maintenance as he can be while awake (lets just say at times he has some strong opinions and he is not shy about letting you know what they are), he has always been an excellent sleeper. While there was a time when we had some difficulty with getting him to fall asleep on his own, once that was nipped in the bud it was smooth sailing from then on. He loves his bed, and it is nice to never have to rush to get him the moment he wakes up because he is perfectly content playing with, and talking to the toys in his bed while he waits (this also makes for some good entertainment on the video monitor).
This summer has been a lot of fun so far. Mr. Bo had a week off before summer school began and we all got to enjoy time together, mostly outside. Even with him teaching summer school, he is able to make it home by 3:30, therefore still allowing time for us to do things together (or maybe just he and BB if this mamma needs a break). One of their favorite things to do together is relax and swing in the hammock in our backyard. We take a walk everyday, and sometimes two. We play in water, run errands, and try to relax as much as we can, but with a baby as active as BB, the relaxing part can be hard to do (remember my high maintenance comment earlier?). But seeing as he was conceived from a stubborn, quick tempered mom and a naughty, mischievous dad, I would expect nothing less!

A Day in the Life of a REAL Housewife

Monday, June 4, 2012

6:28 AM: I wake up to happy baby noises coming from the monitor on my night stand. Since they are happy noises, I stay in bed for another 15 minutes before getting up and retrieving BB from his bed.

BB and I make our way downstairs and I mix a bottle, turn the TV on, turn it to Lifetime (Will and Grace starts at 7!), and BB reluctantly drinks his bottle. I use the word "reluctantly" because BB is the squirmiest, most distracted, and dare I say, most annoying baby I have ever given a bottle to. Some days it takes him 40 minutes to finish 7 oz. I feel like we have tried everything....moving up a nipple size, decreasing the amount of formula, increasing the amount of time between bottles, taking lots of breaks for burps....but nothing works. On this particular morning he was much too interested in the dog laying on the couch next to us to even think of drinking his bottle. Our next step may be a sensory deprivation room.

7:00 AM: Mr. Bo leaves for work (he's doing summer school until the end of June). After BB finishes his bottle, he spends the rest of the morning playing downstairs. After about an hour he happily eats his breakfast of oatmeal and apple sauce, then it's upstairs for a diaper change, some books, and a nap.

8:30 AM: BB takes a nap and I putter around the house getting things done. Among other things, today I take the curtains down and wash them in the washing machine, clean all the windows, put laundry away, and try to take a little time to drink my coffee and enjoy the quiet....Unfortunately I also update our budget for the month of June...It was unfortunate because it's only the 5th and it already needed some major fine-tuning. Ugh...My inevitable doom of joining the ranks of working moms is slowly closing in on me.

10:15 AM: BB wakes up and we make our way outside to play in some water. BB has just recently decided he loves water, and I have just recently decided that I love it too because it keeps him entertained for quite some time. On this day I grabbed a washcloth, a cup, and some bath toys to put in a tub of soapy water.

We also played with bubbles!

10:45 AM: We come back inside, BB gets dressed, and I once again attempt to administer 7 oz of formula to an uninterested baby. After that we play some more inside, and I finally get around to eating some breakfast.

Noon: BB eats a D-E-licious lunch of a Mum-Mum appetizer, squash, peas, and rice cereal.

Yum-yum Mum-Mum!

12:30 PM: BB takes another nap, while I, once again, get some stuff done around the house (more laundry and cleaning the bathrooms). I also made time for lunch.

2:15 PM: BB wakes up from his nap and we leave the house to run errands. My main errand is to run by the pharmacy to finally get my new acne prescription filled....you know, the one I don't have to have blood drawn regularly for white-blood-cell counts to be able to continue taking it (and yes, that does mean that up until today I have been taking a medication that requires just that. However, my acne is gone and I am happy). When we get home BB gets...you guessed it...another bottle.

3:20 PM: Mr. Bo gets home! When BB is done eating we all go for a walk around the neighborhood.

4:45 PM: BB takes another nap, and I use the opportunity to go for a run, and finally take a shower.

5:30: BB wakes up and Mr. Bo gives him his dinner...more squash and peas!

6:00 PM: We hop in the car and drive to Messy Night! Messy Night is an event put on by our local Parents as Teachers program. My mom works for Parents as Teachers as a Parents Educator, and was also a coordinator for the Messy Night event. BB loved it! There were lots of sensory activities for preschool aged children, and plenty for infants to do too.

We hit the footprint station before we moved on to the baby doll baths!

7:30 PM: We arrive back home with an exhausted BB. He gladly (for once) takes his last bottle of the day and is ready for bed.

Tired, but still going strong

8:00 PM: BB lays down after a particularly dramatic pajama-putting-on fiasco, followed by some cuddling and rocking with me. This is often my favorite part of the day because it is one of the few times during the day that he is being still enough to snuggle without squirming away, and attempting suicide dives out of my arms.

9:15 PM: Now here I sit, writing this blog while tomorrow's to-do list runs through my head (I absolutely must vacuum and mop). The Golden Girls is on in the background, and I am about to dig into the still steaming hot Totino's pizza sitting here next to the computer. Mr.Bo is gone to his Monday night co-ed softball game; usually the games are early enough that I am able to go watch, but tonight I am happy to have the time to write this overdue entry.

Tomorrow my day will be quite similar to today's, but hopefully will end with Mr. Bo and I on the couch enjoying a good movie.

This must be what they call "Livin' the Dream." :)
